MERRY CHRISTMAS!!! Zenkaiger was a hit amongst its target audience and the toys sold quite well. So much so that Toei decided to continue using the gear system in their next show. It was soon decided to hire Toku extraordinaire Toshiki Inoue to help the series as Toei felt he would be able to break the franchise’s stereotypes the same way he did with Jetman way back in 1991, with the new show being based on the story of Momotaro. Thus, Avataro Sentai Donbrothers was born. One of Donbrothers’ central themes was the freedom of choice, as the rangers are not required to be heroes, they choose to be such. Diversity would be another aspect of the show, which comes into play as Donbrothers’ red ranger is not the main protagonist, rather that honor goes to the yellow ranger. This gave Donbrothers a new dynamic not seen in Sentai in over a decade. Was it worth it? Watch to find out.
